.... another very busy month !
On 17th November the club was privileged to have Brian Herbert - 7th Dan Head of Jikishin - visit the club and take the session. 17 students from the club were taught first hand some powerful striking techniques. Pictures below. All the students had a great session and we look forward to Sensei returning again soon.
On 12th November - Adrian Buck, with Jason Warren as uke, successfully passed his Shodan black belt pre-test in Brentwood. The pre-test consists of being tested for 2 hours on the syllabus from White belt through to Brown Belt by Sensei Herbert. Along with Adrian's anatomy test with a perfect 100% pass this entitles Adrian to now take the Shodan Black Belt grading on 10th Dec 2006. Pictures from the day below.

On 2nd November we were privileged to be invited by Steve Cowan - East Anglia Brazilian Ju Jitsu coach - to attend a course taught by Rolker Gracie.
The Gracie family are legendary in the martial arts world and Rolker Gracie is a 4th degree black belt teaching the unique Gracie style. He teaches out of Gracie Humaita in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and this is his first visit to the UK. Pictures from the event below :

October 2006
On 28th October the 16th Jikishin Nationals were held in Southend with over 400+ in all attending from around the world and with 8 students from our club. NJJC attendees were Jason, Dominic, Adrian, Ben, John, Craig, Carl and Vanessa. As usual it was an excellent days Ju Jitsu learning and competition.

On 20th October Sensei's Jason and Dominic along with 2 students (Adrian, Dan) attended the regular Jiksihin Ko-Budo course in Brentwood run by the Head of Jikishin - Sensei Brian Herbert. Pictures below.

August 2006
On 13th August Sensei Jason and Dominic along with 5 students (Ady, John, Craig, Ben and Lee) attended an excellent sparring course run by the Head of Jikishin - Sensei Brian Herbert.
Sensei Herbert spent 3 hours enlightening us on all aspect of sparring from drills, techniques to tips and tricks. It was a very well attended event and no doubt from the feedback the first of many.

April 2006
On 30th April Sensei Jason Warren attended Sensei Brian Herbert's (Head of Jikishin) first Instructors Day at the East Tilbury Club venue. This is a new event introduced to get all the senior club instructors together to help develop the syllabus further, update everyone's understanding of techniques and to enable us all to share knowledge. The day was very well attended and received and will be a regular event.
April - Walking Stick course with Sensei John Hunt
On 23rd April Sensei Jason and Dominic along with 4 students (John, Craig, Tom and Ben) attended a very interesting days walking stick course containing useful techniques and kata. Also demonstrated were the uses of bands for exercising, stretching and training.
April - Grappling course with Sensei John Williams
On 9th April Sensei Dominic along with 3 students ( John, Craig and Ben) attended an excellent days groundwork instruction in Brentwood
April - Ho Jutsu with Martin Bates and Paul Lincoln
Students Martin and Paul both demonstrated their comprehensive knowledge of the art of japanese 'rope tieing' at the Norwich club.

January - New Training Programme
January has seen the start of a new 12 week, 3 phase all round martial artist training programme into both sessions of the club. This ensures that during the programme all students will have experienced all the stages of self defence. The 3 phases are :
Free fight phase
Standing Lock and throwing phase
Groundwork phase
Each phase is taught for 4 weeks and comprises essential and advanced techniques and drills to ensure that both beginners and experienced martial artist progress in their training. Students can join at any stage of the programme as it continues throughout the year.
Club Christmas Meal - 2005
Once again the Christmas meal was a good event and well attended. A couple of sensei's had to have an early night for their well needed beauty sleep while many others stayed in town into the early hours .... sorry .... no photos !

15th Jikishin UK Nationals
On 12th November the Jikishin nationals were held in Southend with attendance by over 500 students.
With a course in the morning taught by the highest grades in Jikishin Ju Jitsu from around the world ranging from 7th to 9th Dan we were privileged to be shown some excellent and innovative techniques. The competitions in the afternoon were well attended and loudly supported.
From NJJC Jason Warren, Dominic Blake and Adrian Buck attended and will be showing the rest of our student 'some' of the techniques we've learnt ...
New Friday sessions opens October 2005
Following many student requests we have now decided to run a Friday session at the Reiyukai Centre Personal Evolution (formerly OAC)
The session is run by Dominic Blake.

14 and 15th May 2005 : Jikishin Coaching course
The above Jikishin course was held in Cheshunt and run by
Professor Terry Parker (8th Dan) and Soke Brian Herbert (7th Dan).
The course consisted of general coaching instruction on the first day for the L1 and L2's and coaching role play tests on the second for the L3 and L4's.
The club is pleased to announce that it had the following successful participants -

26th April 2005 : Soke Brian Herbert visits and teaches at NJJC
We were very fortunate to have Soke Brian Herbert 7th Dan (Head of Jikishin Ju Jitsu Association) not only visit our club but teach some impressive and wide ranging techniques for the whole session.

16th February 2005 : Royce Gracie - Gracie Ju Jitsu seminar
Again we had the the opportunity, thanks to Steve Cowan of the Brazilian Ju Jitsu Association, to train with Royce Gracie from the world renowned Gracie family. Although not part of the syllabus we teach the training and lessons learnt we're invaluable.

At this Seminar Jason Warren was awarded his Blue Belt in Brazilian Ju Jitsu by Royce.
Club Christmas Meal - 21st December 2004
Once again the Christmas meal was a good event and well attended, photos below. Unfortunately this year did not see the return of the Bunny 'girl' ........

3rd August 2004 : Jason Warren interview with Radio Broadland
Radio Broadland News editor Harry Mitchell interviewed Jason regarding the recent increase in violence in Norfolk.
13th June 2004 : Congratulations to Dominic Blake earning his Black Belt !
Dominic Blake successfully graded to Black Belt at the Jikishin Grading Day in Brentwood. To achieve his Black Belt Dominic has had to pass a grading in Level 5 weapons (Bo, Nunchaku, Sai, Katana and Tonfa) , pass a re-test on all the White to Brown belt syllabuses on month before the Black Belt grading, pass a written anatomy test, and finally pass the Black Belt syllabus grading.

6th June 2004 : Royce Gracie - Gracie Ju Jitsu seminar
We recently had the the opportunity, thanks to Steve Cowan of the Brazilian Ju Jitsu Association, to train with Royce Gracie from the world renowned Gracie family. Although not part of the syllabus we teach the training and lessons learnt we're invaluable.
Royce is the son of Helio Gracie and won three of the four Ultimate Fighting Championship tournaments using their families famous brand of Ju Jitsu.
